A Professional Organiser (and Mum)’s Honest Take for Busy Parents
Hi, I’m Amy—mum of two, former teacher, and now, a professional home organiser.
Three years ago, I set off on a journey that completely changed my life. Looking back, I now see I’d spent the better part of 20 years in survival mode—pushing myself to be productive, to succeed, to hold it all together. I believed that if I just worked harder—at home, at school, as a mum—I’d find happiness. I was wrong.
After my daughter was born in 2003, I threw myself into teacher training while raising a newborn and trying to keep a perfectly tidy home. I struggled with post-natal depression but brushed it off as weakness—because that’s what I thought back then. In my mind, the more I achieved, the more valuable I was. By the time my son came along in 2008, I was running on empty.
I battled anxiety and depression throughout my 30s and 40s, always pushing forward. But at 47, something finally clicked. Teaching, a job I once adored, was draining my energy, my confidence, and even my personality. I realised I couldn’t keep doing it all—I couldn’t be Supermum, a perfect teacher, and a flawless housekeeper.
I had always been “organised”—sometimes to a fault. But now, organisation became more than just a coping mechanism. It became a calling.
Like many during lockdown, I found myself binge-watching The Home Edit, Sort Your Life Out, and reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. One day, I stumbled upon Dilly Carter’s course on How to become a Professional Organiser. I signed up—quietly, without telling anyone.
And now, here I am—doing what I love, helping families transform their homes and minds through decluttering. If you’re here wondering if a decluttering service is worth it… trust me, I’ve been in your shoes.
What Are Decluttering Services?
Decluttering services are not just about tidying up—they’re about creating sustainable, personalised systems for your home and your life. As a professional organiser, I bring a fresh perspective and a whole lot of empathy.
Whether it’s reclaiming your spare room or making the morning routine less chaotic, I work with you (or sometimes for you!) to bring calm, clarity, and control back into your home.
Why Parents Like Us Are Turning to the Pros
- Time Is Not On Our Side
Between packed lunches, after-school clubs, and the never-ending laundry pile, who actually has time to organise the linen cupboard? Hiring a professional gets the job done faster—and with far less stress.
- Kid Clutter is Relentless
Toys, outgrown clothes, glittery crafts, and random party bag bits… it never ends. I help you implement systems that make sense—rotating toys, easy-to-manage donation bins, and age-appropriate storage that your kids can actually use.
- Less Clutter = Less Stress
When your home is in chaos, your mind often follows. A more organised space leads to calmer mornings, fewer lost items, and a greater sense of control.
- We Can Teach the Kids, Too
Yes—we can involve your kids! I love helping little ones learn how to sort, let go of things they no longer use, and take pride in their space.
So, What’s the Cost?
My pricing is straightforward:
- £40 per hour (minimum of 4 hours, up to 6 hours per session)
- 24-hour package available (split into 4×6-hour or 6×4-hour sessions)
- In-person and virtual options available
Yes, it’s an investment—but one that saves you time, emotional energy, and even money. (Fewer lost things. Fewer unnecessary purchases. More peace of mind.)
Are Decluttering Services Really Worth It?
Here’s my honest answer: Absolutely—if you’re ready for change.
Decluttering services are worth it when:
- Your home feels overwhelming and out of control
- You’ve tried organising but nothing sticks
- You want a calmer environment for your family
- You’re too exhausted to do it all on your own
- You’re ready for systems that work for your lifestyle, not against it
Final Thoughts (And a Little Nudge)
Parenting is hard enough without constantly tripping over LEGO or hunting for that one missing school slip. Clutter adds to the chaos—but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Decluttering isn’t just about the “stuff.” It’s about clearing space for what really matters—your relationships, your energy, your time, and your mental wellbeing.
As someone who’s been overwhelmed and burned out—and who’s come out the other side—I’m here to tell you that asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s a power move.
